Ron Paul is the only real choice we have. He has defended the Constitution every single time and has been trying to educate everyone about the Fed Reserve for years now. With Romney having a past with Baine Capitol and all the job cuts and outsourcing, and him nearly being the richest guy to go for the presidency ever there are major red flags that need to be respected. Remember Romneycare? OMG this is nuts they are acting like he is even getting any votes. Ron Paul is the correct choice no matter what party he is rolling with.

The same thing crossed my mind as well, buggo. I edited that interview maybe 6 weeks ago, and I thought I had excluded some of her more provocative accusations. Since listening to it again, I feel a bit uneasy over posting it. I certainly don’t want to put any doubts into the minds of listeners.

Ms. Edmonds certainly jumped to conclusions! I have read Bruce Fein’s work and heard his Congressional testimony, and been nothing but impressed. He clearly is on the same page, as far as policy goes, with Dr. Paul.

Love to hear what anybody thinks…

I would like to suggest that you invite Joel Salatin on as a guest. Author of numerous books, the latest “Folks, This Ain’t Normal,” Mr. Salatin is a great spokesman for the return of freedom and sanity to our food systems; a microcosm of the economic and personal freedom advocated by Ron Paul. It covers a subject intimate to us all: food and where it comes from and our ecological relationship to it. He’s a wonderful storyteller, and it would be a great interview!! Thank you for your journalistic contribution to the cause of liberty.

I know, I was baffled by Lewis’ monologue, myself- that’s why I just had to post it. A year or so ago, Lewis was totally pro-Ron Paul, but he strikes me as a sort of status-quo apologist. Similar to all the Salem radio hosts: Medved, Praeger, Hewitt, etc.. But with Lewis- he’s a libertarian-leaning conservative openly against these wars- yet he still won’t support Ron Paul! He claims it’s because of us, but I guarantee there’s more behind it. Call me crazy, but I would guess it has more to do with Lewis’ personal/professional relationships. He may agree with Ron Paul 100%, but he can’t endorse Ron Paul because he’s Ron Paul! And we all offend the sensibilities of status-quo Republicans.

What is up with Jason Lewis at 2 (hours) :24 (minutes)? I just replayed caller Dave’s question: How does Jason consider the former Fed chairman (Cain’s) plan to tax the people more with the 9-9-9 plan as “bold” vs. Ron Paul’s plan to audit the fed? That was it; that was all the question entailed.

And Jason Lewis starts on an angry rant about the alleged irrationality of Paul supporters with no answer or reference to Herman Cain or his idea. This is why I stopped wasting time with talk radio.

Great research, Eddy. That is a key question, is Israel our 51st state? It is immoral to confiscate money from us to fund the defense of another nation, one that many of us would not choose to support! Israel can take care of themselves, they actually have hundreds of nuclear weapons. Quit being Israel first proponents. Think about our soldiers dying in the Middle East and our economy for a change.

They are all despicable pseudo-conservatives, and they’re terrified that conservatism might become more synonymous with an anti-war sentiment- it would make them all irrelevant! That’s among our greatest challenges, since all the vast majority of prominent conservative voices are pro-empire- and those who are actually intellectual, thinking individuals, lose their jobs, affiliates, etc.

Take a listen to all the Mickelson interviews- the guy really does a great job. Like many, many broadcasters, Mickelson doesn’t agree with Ron Paul about foreign policy, yet he never challenges the Congressman. They all know that Ron would make them look silly in a one on one debate (just like Santorum)!

I think and feel that Ron Paul has in the past and today has a great platform and woulf be a great President. However his shorcomings are the following and this is why he will not attain his goal with the American people: 1- He is not a smooth/polished speaker whereby he needs a speech coach that will enhance effective communications towards speaking well. 2= He dresses mish=mosh and needs ro clean up his messy appearance. 3= Sometimes he gives the impression that he is fighting his way out of a “paper bag” while speaking rather than merely stating his platform. 4- He needs to add more humor .

I wanted to vote for him in the last election even though I knew he wasn’t going to win…..he could make it…… as his platform is the best I’ve heard, if he had some more polish, wit, and charisma.

A New Declaration of Independence

When frustration and discontent make it necessary for people to change their government and exercise their rightful power to determine the government they want, respect for other people’s opinions requires that they explain why they are dissatisfied with their government.

We believe certain truths are self-evident. We believe that all men are created equal. We believe they have certain natural rights, and that these rights cannot be taken from them. Whether people believe in a Creator or not, we believe that these rights include Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. Men create governments and consent to give them certain powers in order to protect and secure these rights for themselves. Whenever any government jeopardizes this goal, it is the Right of the People to alter or abolish it, and to institute new government founded on those principles and to give it the powers they think will best protect and serve their Safety and Happiness. Prudence dictates that long standing governments should not be changed for trivial or fleeting reasons, and experience has shown that people are more likely to tolerate evil, while it is tolerable, than to change a familiar government. But when there is a long history of abuse and disobedience, which clearly shows a pattern of the Government overstepping its limits and depriving citizens of their liberty and heritage, it is their right and their duty to change their government and provide new safeguards for their future security. Americans have patiently suffered, and now it is time for them to alter the Government. The history of the federal Government is a history of repeated failures, lies, and usurpations that demonstrate that it is no longer a government of the People, by the People, and for the People. To prove this, here are some facts for earnest people to consider.

The Government has established elaborate districts and election laws designed to preserve the dominance of two political parties. With rare exceptions, all of our representatives and government officials are members of these two political parties. Even though one-third of Americans are politically independent and almost everyone is unhappy with the results produced by these two parties, they maintain complete control of our government.

The Government over spends every year, and refuses to balance its budget. It has created debts and obligations that threaten our security and prosperity and that will burden future generations from birth. To support its overspending, the Government borrows extensively from countries that may not have America’s best interest at heart and spends today the money it promised the People it would save for tomorrow.

The Government forces the People to use false money so that it can surreptitiously take wealth from us. It uses our wealth to buy allegiance with countless programs operated under the guise of fairness, progress, or safety. Baseless money is the root of profiteering, and causes inflation that robs the very people the Government claims to be helping.

The Government has created an indecipherable tax code that cannot be applied fairly. It creates tax rebates and insists that we should be grateful for its indulgence.

The Government passes legislation that will have sweeping consequences for all Americans by cutting outrageous and obviously unfair deals, and approves laws written by and for special interests without reading them. The Government exempts itself from laws it imposes on the rest of us.

The Government regulates our food, the air, the water, farming, education, the use of energy, healthcare, housing and homeownership, business, industry, communications, labor, transportation, foreign policy, war and peace, and the currency. It manages with each new crisis, real or contrived, to expand its power. It can imprison and take the property of anyone who fails to pay for its services. It owns one-fifth of the land in the United States, and has a nationwide system of courts, attorneys, police, and prisons to enforce the law and protect its interests.

According to the President’s Web site, “There are hundreds of federal agencies and commissions…” There are only three explanations for this state of affairs: we are savage people that must be restrained; we are stupid people incapable of solving our own problems; or the people who run the Government love power.

Many of our elected representatives are unable or unwilling to explain in plain English which section of the Constitution delegates to them authority for the laws they approve, and many of them believe there are no limits on the federal Government’s powers. The people who approved the Constitution of the United States of America feared it would reproduce the same problems they had just fought and died to end. They approved the Constitution only after being assured that it gave the federal Government limited power. The Constitution and the Founders’ thoughts are written in plain English, and everyone may judge whether the laws passed by the federal Government are Constitutional.

Some times several agencies of the Government regulate the same behavior, and many of the Government’s regulations interfere with common sense, innovation, and individual freedom.

Every year the Government passes new laws that it says will make our lives and the world better. If they’re such good ideas, why is it necessary to subsidize them or impose them by force?

Government programs are always more expensive than originally estimated, and even failed or obsolete programs are continued.

A small number of people run the corporations and unions one day and then run the Government the next day. They can’t be objective under those circumstances or serve the best interests of the People. They serve only themselves and their friends.

The Government is giving and lending the public’s money to private companies for private purposes. If the individuals running these companies are the best and the brightest, then they should be able to make it on their own without the Government bailing them out when things go badly.

The Government is bailing out other countries, and the central bank does not have to show the public how it uses our money.

The Government enters into treaties, contracts, and relationships with foreign entities, and relinquishes authority to international bodies, undermining America’s sovereignty.

The Government has ruled that it can take private land from one owner and give it to another private owner if it prefers the new owner’s plans for the property.

You can choose an abortion, but you can’t choose to smoke marijuana. Thousands of people are in prison for this crime.

The Government’s current prohibition is fueling lawlessness and disorder, here and abroad, just like the last prohibition did. Despite the mayhem and the humiliation it causes, the Government persists in trying to control foolish and unhealthy behavior by jailing scores of otherwise innocent citizens.

We no longer have orderly Militias, but we have many laws that infringe on our right to keep and bear arms for our own security. If the Government believes the People no longer have this right, then it should be honest and amend the Constitution.

The Government spends billions of dollars each year to secure the homeland, yet half the time ordinary citizens stop the terrorists. Its agents violate the rights of travelers daily, and assault children, the sick, and the dying. It is developing new methods to monitor, track, and examine people without probable cause. The Government’s money and influence is gradually transforming the police from an institution that serves and protects our communities into an apparatus capable of controlling us.

The Government’s military spending, not including the current wars, is equal to the military spending of the rest of the world combined. Why? We have oceans on either side of us, a mostly unpopulated wilderness to the north, and a nation to the south that is barely able to defend itself against criminal gangs.

The Government has given us a War on Terror, a War on Drugs, and a War on Poverty. None of these wars were ever won.

The Government has failed to secure our borders and points of entry, one of its fundamental duties, despite the fact that its officials promised to faithfully execute the law, despite the fact that most Americans want secure borders, and despite the fact that other nations secure their borders.

The Government tells us that millions of our citizens need help, and it has numerous programs to provide the necessities of life. It does this at the same time that billions of dollars are spent every month to employ people overseas and millions of people, many at great personal risk, come here legally and illegally. Most of the people who come here find work and shelter, raise their families, and are grateful for the opportunities and freedom denied them in their own lands.

Those that come here illegally are often swindled and abused, live in deplorable conditions and fear, and never become Americans like our grandparents did. Those that come here legally are often subjected to delays and bureaucratic absurdities while trying to become Americans. The Government is planning to sweep this under the rug again by re-forming the law.

More than a few of the people indiscriminately entering our country are vicious criminals bent on robbery, murder, or the destruction of our nation. The Government has chosen to forsake the People’s security, and instead devotes its energy to proving its own supremacy.

The Government has given itself the power to watch us and listen to us without independent judicial approval. It is also trying to impose a national identification card.

The Government meddles in the internal affairs of other countries, and recently used surrogates and secret prisons to do things that legally can’t be done here. History shows that this behavior only creates problems. A good reputation and friendship are just as important as security and freedom.

The Government is indefinitely holding people without charges and without trial, and has identified American citizens, who have not been charged or convicted of any crime, for assassination. These are the practices of dictators and kings, not a nation of laws.

The Government now fights undeclared wars. If we find it necessary to go to war, then Congress should have the integrity and courage to declare war as required by the Constitution.

The Government has given itself the authority to wage war at any time and in any place. Unfettered authority appears to have resulted in unending war. This will enrich arms suppliers, but will surely lead to our nation’s downfall.

It took America three and a half years to defeat the Nazis and the Japanese empire. The Government has been at war now for the past ten years. All it has to show for it are the heads of a few ruffians on pikes, a mountain of debt, the wounded souls and maimed bodies of our countrymen, and everyone’s suspicion that AMERICA no longer exists.

The Government trumpets virtue and decency and sacrifice to the People while pursuing power and decadence and corruption for itself and its friends.

For many years, we have forewarned the Government of the problems associated with its growth, only to be told that we need still more Government. A government that continuously grabs power and begins to take on the characteristics that define a tyranny is not fit to be the government of a free people.

Nor have we ignored our fellow citizens. We have warned them of the dangers of this creeping intrusion into our lives and of the accumulation of power. We have reminded them why we came here and the circumstances under which this nation was created. We have appealed to their sense of fairness and open-mindedness, and have appealed to our common interest to reject these efforts which inevitably will undermine our connections and mutual trust. They have turned a deaf ear to the voice of reason and kinship, and our efforts have often been met with accusations of heartlessness and bigotry, or the insinuation that we should be silent because our words might incite violence. Thugs and lunatics don’t need provocation – only tyrants fear dissent. Despite all that, we consider all sincere Americans friends.

Therefore, the people of the United States of America, proclaiming our best intentions to the Supreme Judge of the world, do solemnly publish and declare, that we are disgusted with the federal Government’s illegal use of powers not given to it by the Constitution, by the States, or by the People. Five-hundred forty-five people in Washington cannot make 310 million people happy and secure; only vanity or hunger for power explain why you try. We want a government that honors the Republic, not power, privilege, and self-interest. We want a government that is fiscally responsible. We want sound money. We want the Government to stop redistributing our wealth under the pretext of trying to make life fair. We know you just like the power and the adulation that come from giving away what others have earned, but remember – “Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” We want you to secure our borders and protect our nation from people who don’t share our values or that wish us harm. We want the Government to stop trying to solve all the world’s problems; we have enough here. We want you to stop building an empire; empires usually end in ruins. We want you to bring our men and women home - now! We want you to abide by the Constitution. It was designed to limit what you may do. Anything else is a violation of the Constitution and a threat to our Liberty. We expect you to return to their rightful owners – the PEOPLE – the freedoms you’ve stolen. If you don’t, then we will take them back.

Perhaps Mr. Savage has woke up. Most of us, unfortunately, bought the propagandist lies of the neocons. Most of us initially bought the media spin of 9/11 and our subsequent invasion of Iraq. Each of us, for the most part, had a day of awakening, our “Ah-ha!” moment, when we became fully aware of the corruption and lies surrounding us. My grown sons fed me information back in ‘07, which caused me to investigate and think for myself. My hope is Mr. Savage is sincerely aware, and not pandering. I say, may they all wake up and repent of supporting the status quo.

I am not a “fan” of Michael Savage, but of the collection of tired neoconservative talk show hosts that litter my air waves, he is the least offensive. He was one of the first to say we should leave Afghanistan, and unlike Rush, he truly attacks Republicans as well as Democrats.

Since I listen to him, I wanted to correct the statement you made about how Savage has a passive tone. This is common for him when he has guests on his show (not callers). Anytime he has a guest on, he lets them speak at length, does not interrupt, and he remains professional and passive rather than agitating and eccentric. It’s nice because its not like his standard radio personality.

Frankly, I have no idea if he is coming our way or not….but on fiscal issues he was always an ally, and he is coming around on foreign issues. He is no libertarian on social issues…but who knows maybe he can support Ron Paul because Paul takes a states rights position on a lot of controversial views.

As far as his statements go, I quoted him directly. There was no paraphrasing done at all. He specifically stated, and again I’ll quote, “but if someone is attending speeches from someone who is promoting the violent overthrow of our government, that’s really an offense that we should be going after, they should be deported or imprisoned,” as well as, “If we have, let’s say we have 100,000 exchange students from the Middle East, I want to know where they are, how long they’ve been here, whether they’ve overstayed their welcome, whether they are in school…”

How can these statements be taken any other way? Unless he is being dishonest with this position, it is as clear as day that he doesn’t take civil liberties as seriously as he should. You can’t just incriminate people or remove their civil liberties simply for being born in another country.

Of course I thought you were coming from a leftist perspective, ThinkProgress and the like were out there saying: “Rand Paul wants to criminalize speech” or “Rand Paul Wants To Know Where Every Middle East Exchange Student Is At All Times.” Is that not an absurd paraphrasing of his argument?

Dr. Paul spends more time than he should PLAYING THEIR GAME, although he plays it less than any other politician in high office. I was linked here after I heard Rand’s comments. I felt like I needed to say something, especially after I noticed that no one had said anything about it on here. I feel that if someone who was elected because they champion Libertarian principles and claim to defend liberty, then they should act like it in every instance and never back down just to gain voters. I find that to be a form of dishonesty, if not to the people who elected you, then at the very least to yourself.

I will give that case ruling a read when I have a chance. And you’re right, natural rights don’t ring true if they are not natural to any human born anywhere. I believe we should just accept that terrorism is a risk, that we shouldn’t try to make everyone perfectly safe (it’s impossible), because liberty would be destroyed in the process. Plus, the government hypes the fear to enhance its own power and authority.

Hannity and his listeners could not deal with such statements, and Rand’s tactics are (I believe) to build a bridge to those who would disagree with him. That’s why Ron Paul is the best! So many appreciate his straight talk. But he spent many lonely, isolated years in the Congress. I think Rand’s strategy is just a little different; I don’t think that makes him just as bad as the other 534. But I’m not going to apologize for him either.

Just curious, did you ever come to this website before, or were you just passing through?

JT, as I stated within my initial comment, it is considered protected. Back in 1969, the Supreme Court ruled that speech, no matter how subversive, still considered protected unless there is imminent threat of danger and lawless activity. Also, why should Rand have to appease someone like Hannity? If Rand truly holds libertarian principals and is a strong believer in 4th amendment rights, he would stick to his guns and not flip flop in the same interview just for the sake of appeasing him. The only alternative would be to repeal the act and not do anything that infringes on civil liberties. I said it earlier, you can’t claim to be a champion of civil liberties, but only apply them to those lucky enough to have been born here. If he’s saying what needs to be said in order to not get someone like Hannity on his back, then I find that to be a form of dishonesty. One who truly values their principles wouldn’t budge or slightly alter them just to appease someone else. On the other hand, if he truly does believe what he says in this interview, that would make him a hypocrite. He did indeed put his foot in his mouth, and he needs to find a way to correct himself because it would be really damaging to his reputation if he doesn’t.

If you follow Ron Paul and his son, David, then you know that their ideology is virtually identical. They just have a different way of approaching the issues. Like I said before, the Senator did stick his foot in his mouth abit in this interview, he was just trying to offer a Patriot Act alternative on-the-fly to a terror-crazed Hannity audience. I called you out as a liberal, not because you disagreed with Rand Paul, but because I think this whole leftwing (Soros-outfit) fueled “debate” is itself, a straw-man. We both know that it is illegal to invoke violence against ANYONE- calling for violence is not protected speech.

Now, I too am very concerned about government surveillance of political speech. BUT THEY ARE ALREADY DOING THAT NOW. Just google “ron paul MIAC” or “Campaign for Liberty florida fusion center”. ThinkProgress and MSNBC showed no concern about that invasion of free speech. My point is, this isn’t proposed legislation, or a written article. It’s a paragraph spoken on a radio show that the left has decided to demagogue. And at this time, I want the government to spend MORE TIME investigating the known violence-inducing speech of foreigners than searching through everyone’s bank-records, and touching everyone’s genitals at the airports. An alternative to the Patriot Act that still infringes upon civil liberties is no true alternative. Where in the Constitution does it state that civil liberties are only guaranteed to people who are citizens of this country? It doesn’t. The Constitution clearly uses the word “people” and “person.” This means anyone who is in this country, citizen or visitor, has civil liberties that must be protected. If one is to claim that they are a champion of defending civil liberties, one shouldn’t offer to eliminate or infringe on civil liberties just because they weren’t born in this country. Rights are considered inalienable, meaning you are born with them. This was one of the things that the founding fathers of this country fought for.

Also, nice straw man argument. You assume that because I disagree with Rand’s comments means I’m automatically a leftist democrat? Is the idea of following the Constitution and protecting civil liberties something that only democrats enjoy doing? Does calling out pure hypocrisy make me a democrat? Since Rand Paul knows Libertarian rhetoric, he should be held to a higher standard than simply spewing what may be needed to neoconservative blowhards like Sean Hannity so that he can get votes.

I am a fan and supporter of Ron Paul, but unless Rand corrects himself, I consider him nothing more than a typical silver tongue politician.

Senator Paul, I believe, was just offering an alternative to the PATRIOT Act, and the TSA- (in an impromptu way). I’m absolutely certain that the Senator would not support such legislation, if it were to come to a vote tomorrow. However, there is no right to incite people to violently overthrow the government- and that was the crux of his argument- not to chill or investigate legal political speech!

It comes down to whether you think it is more just to treat every American as a suspect, as opposed to demanding more scrutiny on students from certain overseas nations.

Rand Paul stood up to the leadership of both parties and demanded debate over the 4th amendment destroying Patriot ACt! But rather than give the guy a little credit, the left has chosen to demagogue a suggestion the man made on a radio show. I only wish you leftists would be as noisy about the rights of all Americans, as opposed to civil liberties for foreign students, illegal immigrants, and their ilk. Should guests of this country not have a higher standard of security assessment than little girls and old WWII vets at the nation’s airports?

Deported or imprisoned for attending speeches?! Does he need to be reminded of the first amendment? The content of the speech doesn’t matter, it is considered protected under the first amendment. You can’t even go after the person giving the speech no matter how subversive unless in doing so, he presents a clear and present danger. That’s what the Supreme Court has said in Brandenburg vs. Ohio back in 1969. The ruling stated, “The constitutional guarantees of free speech and free press do not permit a State to forbid or proscribe advocacy of the use of force or of law violation except where such advocacy is directed to inciting or producing imminent lawless action and is likely to incite or produce such action.” So lawless action has to be likely to happen, but imminent as well, otherwise they are protected.

Just for being exchange students? Even if they’ve committed no crimes or acted suspiciously and you want to invade their privacy and destroy their civil liberties just because of where they are born? How is that even moral, let alone constitutional? Yet later in the interview he says that he believes that the 4th amendment right is extremely important, even going as far as to say it is an obnoxious insult to be considered a friend to terrorists if you insist that judges should have to sign a warrant before they just search your house and invade your privacy.

Rand Paul, either you are saying what needs to be said for the sake of votes, or you are one of the biggest hypocrites in political history. You can’t say that you want to destroy civil liberties and then claim that you are an advocate for civil liberties. I really wish Ron Paul would have listened to this interview so that he could educate his son on such matters.

I thought the exact same thing, David. The best interviews are never found on the cable tv networks- who front for a powerful, organized cartel! Local radio hosts are often more independent minded, and less influenced by the propaganda coming out of the corporate structure.

I would argue that Dr. Paul does come off well on tv interviews, but the intelligence/political operatives who are the cable network anchors have a simple but sophisticated method towards making opponents look bad. The question is, with the downward trend in MSM ratings, is it worth appearing on CNN and MSNBC at all?

The caller who discussed oil prices or price fluctuations is among many who don’t understand the economics of this. Dr. Paul explained it well. He is so right about the dollar printing. However… He didn’t have time to get into the details of how government favor to the oil companies (through the dept. of energy or whatever) causes these companies to grow in size and power at the expense of any smaller competitors. (This is why beaucracies exist despite their unpopularity.) Govt. offers force and favor which are always mixed.

This reduces competition, which always increases or fixes prices. Dr. Paul explained this somewhat, but I don’t know if it stuck on even the radio host.

Thanks Jerry, I meant the piece to be a broad sample of what people are saying. Although plenty of the coverage is snide and dismissive, it is certainly improved over four years ago. Even those who dislike Ron Paul generally offer token respect. And, in my opinion, the criticisms of the pundits ring so hollow, and absurd, that I would hope that those who listen to this podcast take that commentary for what it’s worth.

You’re right though, one doesn’t have to search very hard to find such criticisms. I would think that the three hours, in totality, do provide an interesting prospective, no? Particularly the call-in shows with public participation. I will take your comments to heart, and re-examine the posting of this kind of audio.

Your podcast is primarily preaching to the choir of a passionate minority who already know that Dr. Paul has been snubbed, marginalized and generally given short shrift by the mainstream media, and neo-con talk radio and other media that, although they would not consider themselves MSM, are, at the end of the day, establishment shills. If Ron Paul is to win in 2012, podcasts like yours must be used to greatly expand his support. Why does Steve Paikin keep referring to to Dr. Ron Paul as “Chairman”. It sounds so derogatory. He is a chairman of a sub-committee on oversight of Domestic economic Policy. More importantly he is a representative in Congress and a physician. BTW What is “economy darwinism” a clever phrase that went nowhere. Can Steve Paikin clarify this obscure terminology?

Absolutely right, Bill. We need a government that doesn’t have billions to give to special interests in the first place! The real question is, what percentage of legal voting Americans are a part of a special interest? Think about it: unions, the disabled, government workers, the elderly, zionists/pro-Israeli lobby, defense contractors, bankers, big agro… it gets insane! That’s not to say that siding with those interest groups is in the best interest of those Americans, but will they consider the future, or their short-term self-interest?

We both know that kind of rhetoric is just a talking point, like saying that we NEED a central bank because of the complexity of the modern financial industry. Its outthinking one’s self. I was surprised that the Congressman went on with Spitzer, but I’m glad he did. The minimum wage is a tough issue- I am personally disadvantaged, but that doesn’t mean that I think we just need a bigger, better government. We’ve had a big active govt for 80 years- it has failed and the nation is broke! Dr. Paul will not moderate his position on Liberty, and that’s why millions love him. He does offer all kinds of common sense ways to cut govt BEFORE attacking those who are most dependent. To suggest that there is no savings to be had by reducing Washington’s take, like in the interview, is absurd. Personal suffering cannot be alleviated by government, we’ve gone broke trying. It takes a more prosperous, compassionate society- and we go further in the other direction everyday.

As much as I admire Ron Paul’s integrity I think his radical solutions turn off many who would otherwise vote for him as President. I like his anti-jingoist stand as well as his constant reminders to us all that fiscal responsibility is paramount to our recovery. But would he, for example, advocate that we go back to the horse and buggy and kerosene lamps in order to save 700 Billion a year in foreign oil? Common sense tells me that the American people will never vote into office someone who may be right insofar as the numbers go but on the other hand may be so insensitive to the Nation’s disadvantaged population as to cause personal suffering and civil strife. There must be a meeting of the minds. Too bad Congressman Paul does not take a more moderate route; like they say, there’s more than one way to skin a cat.

Thanks, Russ! I wish Colmes and people like him had more faith that we can change the political system if we all desire to, and refuse to be divided by issues that are less important.

I always point to Rand Paul right at the end of the Repub primary, when he announced his candidacy and returned after the primary to the Maddow show. I think he would have taken more of an anti-war stance if he could have received some support from the grassroots left. But Maddow stabbed him in the back, instead taking Rand’s political philosophy and boiling it down to the damn Woolworth’s lunch counters. At that point, he made the calculated decision to retreat to the neocon side instead. He wanted an open dialogue on our govt, and the media successfully divided us.

From his wikipedia page, it looks like he’s still syndicated on Premiere. I had never heard of the guy, but I like him! There are some good libertarian hosts out there, as evidenced by RP’s recent radio interviews. How about Dr. Paul’s statement at the end- sounds like he’s getting closer to announcing a run for POTUS!

Thanks alot for your comment se7en. I search far and wide for all the RP media I can. I’d make the podcast video if it was worth the cost of bandwidth, but talking politics doesn’t really require a visual. You’re right about the site moving into 2012, though. It will be all RP all the time!

The tea-party is a loose coalition, and the neocons have been forced to take on some of our coloration. Not because they agree, but because their relevance depends on it! Ron Paul is willing to call out the banking cartel for what it is, and I haven’t heard Rand do that yet. So far, he only talks about the debt as a budgetary issue, and hasn’t really taken on the special interests. At least Rand has stayed vague on his foreign policy positions- the neocons will force him to be pro-war eventually, like when he came out pro-Guantanamo.

The bottom line is that Ron Paul is an absolutely unique, courageous man! It was interesting that Hannity seems to be trying to make amends with us, Ron Paul supporters. Levin certainly isn’t, and Laura Ingraham doesn’t even say the name Ron Paul. Now that the GOP has power, i hope a real nonpartisan tea-party can arise: anti-war, populist economics, with a focus on civil liberties!

Ron is more hopeful - he thinks his followers will be pleased with Rand… so we can wait and see, but I agree with you - he does stray from his father on some core philosophical issues (at least it seems), which is a problem for me… but we’ll have to see his record over time. We’ve had the benefit of reading and seeing the speeches/votes of Ron for the past 30+ years, so we know we can trust him. I will give Rand the benefit of the doubt until he has a few years under his belt.

That said, even if Rand was a perfect carbon copy of his father, this time is now Ron’s. He is the leader of the revolution. I tend not to even click on the Rand segments on this blog, because in my limited time, I care more to listen to the head of the revolution. Frankly, I don’t care whether you choose to include or exclude Rand’s segments, because I don’t listen to them very often anyways. Ron has been in the media more and more… he must be exhausted! But that will only increase, especially when the 2012 campaign starts. You won’t even have time to post Rand’s commentary by then… so I think that’s the answer to your question - just like Ron can’t end the Fed, the Fed will end itself - Rand’s segments will end themselves because you’ll be spending all your time keeping up with all of Ron’s appearances!!

By the way - only recently discovered this site - but it’s fabulous! Apart from DP and the LRC blog, there are still quite a few clips you put on here that I wouldn’t have otherwise listened to, so thank you! It sure makes work a bit more tolerable.

Senator Elect Rand Paul

We will spend 858 billion dollars to prevent a tax increase on 53% of the tax payers. And this will increase Our GDP. This the justification that congress is using for increasing the national debt to an all time high of 1.5 trillion dollars for the 2011 fiscal year. Let me try to see how this is a good idea.

Our GDP (Gross Domestic Product) is 14 trillion dollars.

Many Economists expected the annual deficit to begin to reduce in 2011 (1.21 trillion 2011 and1.02 in2012), but now expect it to reach 1.5 trillion dollars for 2011 based on the current legislation being worked on by President and congress.

These same economists feel the legislation will increase GDP to 3% for fiscal 2011 based on the passage of the legislation. $14,000,000,000 * .03 = $420,000,000 increase in GDP The same Economists thought before the legislation that GDP would increase 2.4% for fiscal 2011. $14,000,000,000 * .024 = $336,000,000 increase in GDP

Summary 53% of tax payers feel happy (47% do not pay taxes) no increase in taxes. GDP increases $84,000,000 the economists and businesses are happy All workers will be happy with a 2% increase in take home pay. The corn growers will be happy to supply product for ethanol Wall Street is happy they can look forward to market rising. The Media will be happy to report the good news that everyone is happy or unhappy. Congress is happy because they did something. They can go back home and brag about what they did and blame the other side for any dissatisfaction.

Once again all Americans will pay the price of all of this National Debt and a 1.5 trillion dollar deficit for 2011 and ask why is no one interested in reducing spending? No one in Washington has the will or the intellect to make the hard decisions to solve the problems facing the Nation. It is much easier to spend money we do not have.

Resolution: This is not a good idea without compensating spending cuts. To spend nearly a trillion dollars to make these people happy and raise GDP a mere 84 billion dollars is just another example of congress’s self serving actions (reelection). Does anyone realize that the federal government revenue is just 2.6 trillion dollars and congress is about to spend 40% more than revenue available in one fell swoop.

Interesting comments Gordon. They’re already doing it again, in anticipation of 2012. Despite all the Congressman’s earned credibility, Fox News Brett Baier already did a “12 in 2012″ series looking at the 2012 GOP contenders. Despite his grassroots base of support, and how he outdid 75% of GOP candidates in ‘08, RP did not even make FOX’ TOP 12! He got a minute’s mention in a “longshot/outsider” category. This despite the fact that he is on fox like, everyday.

It’s outrageous, and there’s no telling how many roadblocks are in the way for Dr. Paul! It’s hard to believe how many people it would require to keep him down at the caucuses. It wouldn’t shock me if the CIA actually has a system in place…

Anderson Cooper was airing live from the Nevada state Republican convention in 07. He was interviewing everyone and their brother for over 2 hours. Talking about who may win at the convention. Digging into every candidates background(except for Paul) and generally waiting for the outcome at the end. 2 HOURS THIS WENT ON. Would it be Guilianni, McCain, Huckabee, Romney etc..etc… The convention finished and everyone was going crazy! Ron Paul had won! Dont you know Anderson Cooper NEVER even mentioned on air that Dr. Ron Paul had won. He completely skipped that part!LOL!

Things like this plagued the election throughout. The Texas convention doors were manned by big red-neck types and not allowing any Ron Paul delegates in after 9am. The letter of invitation clearly stated they had till 10 am to enter the convention. This is on film and on you tube.

The Galveston Republican Convention for district 22(Tom Delays old district) and 17 (Ron Pauls district) were joined and run together, going against the rules. Each district is to have their own convention to elect state delegates. Dont you know they not only ran both districts together, They called all the Ron Paul delegates into a room under the disguise of teaching them to become delegates all the while there was voting going on while they sheepishly listened to “how to become a delegate” while the actual voting for delegates was happening in another part of the building! They do not like Ron Paul… Hell, they cant even look at him when he speaks…They look at their shoes or look away. Ron Paul is a hero and a modern day founding father. Ron Paul is someone to trust and he does what he says and has been saying the same things for decades and does not change. He will go down in history as being the grandest statesman of our time.

Hannity is incredibly disingenuous, not only in his personality, but in the way he talks to his audience! Notice his willingness to make excuses for anyone in a uniform- even lowly TSA agents (no offense to the good ones). And you’re right Phillip, Fox is already making RP an afterthought for 2012. I will never forget Hannity’s aid on behalf of faux news’s demonisation of Dr Paul in the last Presidential elections.
