The three talked about the welfare state's impact on charitable causes, as big government requires an ever increasing share of society's resources.

TST: Social Security Is Not ‘Insurance’ (12/27/2010)
December 29th, 2010
In this episode of Texas Straight Talk, Dr. Ron Paul explains why it is that the government lies about social security. It has been improperly framed as a type of mandatory insurance program, yet the money allocated for social security has been spent by the politicians like the rest of the general fund. There is no trust fund where your hard earned money is earning interest for the future! The government has always been vague on how to fund the entitlement in the long term. As is so common with governments, programs created as a safety net for the most vulnerable become unfunded liabilities for future generations!

Rep. Ron Paul on the Alan Colmes Show (12/21/2010)
December 22nd, 2010
Congressman Ron Paul joins Fox News contributor and radio host Alan Colmes to discuss the end of the lame-duck session of Congress and his plans to tackle the Federal Reserve in the New Year. Although he is something of an apologist for the establishment, Colmes has to be the most reasonable lefty on the mainstream political landscape, and the interview shows that we Americans can agree on alot, if not purposefully divided by the MSM! Dr. Paul is still "leaning towards 50-50" on whether or not to run again in 2012!

For this week's Texas Straight Talk update, Dr. Paul addresses the fallacy that keeping your own money is a cost to the government. Ron Paul on NPR’s All Things Considered (12/19/2010)
December 20th, 2010
Dr. Paul appeared on NPR's All Things Considered to answer the question: Would he really try to End the Fed? Guy Raz talked to the Congressman about the gold standard and auditing the Federal Reserve as Chairman of the Domestic Monetary Policy subcommittee. Not surprisingly, NPR preempts the Congressman with Planet Money host Adam Davidson, ostensibly to explain why an independent Fed is such an essential part of America's economic prosperity (a bit of revisionist history- as they don't mention JP Morgan, Max Warburg, or the conspiracy on Jekyll Island).

Congressman Paul also made an interesting comment about 2012, speaking in the third person! Jason Lewis: "Is Ron Paul going to run for President in 2012":
RP: (14:00) "Maybe! Pretty soon I'm going to ask him and pin him down, and make him commit one way or the other. I will be talking to him frequently."

C-Span’s Newsmakers with Ron Paul (12/16/2010)
December 16th, 2010
Rep. Ron Paul joined C‑SPAN's Newsmakers program today to talk about Federal Reserve policy, and his plans as Chairman of the Subcommittee on domestic monetary policy. The Congressman is joined by host Susan Swain, Robin Harding of the Financial Times, and Sudeep Reddy of the Wall Street Journal. Representative Paul talked changes he would like to see in the Federal Reserve’s mission, regulating the bank, and what he’d like his subcommittee to do in terms of oversight. Listen as the panelists tiptoe around the notion that this country should be run firstly for the benefit of the bankers. That's why the Fed was created: to ensure the permanent profitability of the nation's financiers, and through that authority the ability to socially engineer! Dr. Paul does rightly inform the audience of an even worse fate:
RP: (14:32) "Something much worse could come out of this, and that is an international, one-world fiat currency. You know, people talk about the IMF coming up with the SDR's or... another currency. That, to me, would be alot worse than the dollar reserve standard because it would be mandatory around the world."

Rand Paul on the Sean Hannity Show (12/16/2010)
December 16th, 2010
Senator-elect Rand Paul talks about tax policy, government spending, budgetary cuts, and more with neoconservative radio host Sean Hannity. Dr. Paul calls for compromise on cutting spending, not compromise for additional spending. Thanks to the YouTube channel: CapitalistBanner for posting the audio.
I am considering dropping the podcast's coverage of Rand in the near future. It is still early (and the man isn't in the Senate yet) but I differ with Rand's stated austerity plan, that he mentioned last week on the Situation Room. It's fine if he wants to have a dialogue with the neocons, but it's not worth this writer's time to follow a Senator aligning himself more closely with Jim DeMint rather than his father. Rand's insistence on making the national debt/deficit his lone priority is foolish if he wants to start with benefits for the unemployed. As Ron Paul frequently states, the debt must be liquidated, as it will not ever be paid back (even if an austerity plan were implemented). Whereas Congressman Paul has suggested saving money by winding down the empire, Rand seems set to first cut domestic spending on the back's of the country's most vulnerable (while arguing for lower taxes of the rich). This economy is shot, and cutting government resources should be preferable to cutting the lifeline of the people! Rand has been silent on the TSA and issues of liberty since he won the primary (he wouldn't even defend his views on the drug war). Please comment below; I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Dr. Paul on CNN’s Situation Room (12/14/2010)
December 15th, 2010
Representative Paul visited with CNN fill-in host Suzanne Malveaux on The Situation Room on Tuesday afternoon. Malveaux, sitting in for Wolf Blitzer, tends to vigorously defend the government line- and was rather rude and dismissive with Dr. Paul! The Congressman talked about his new committee chairmanship, along with his views on the ongoing Wiki-Leaks controversy. He referred to the hype and fear-mongering in the aftermath of the leaks as "a deliberate attempt to...close down the internet" (8:11). Anybody heard of the CyberSecurity Act, which contains the internet kill switch. How about re-defining what it is to be a journalist, with John Ensign's SHIELD Act? How about Cass Sunstein and the administrations attempt to regulate (and tax) the internet by content!
Malveaux then asserted the leaks are a threat to National security, to which the Congressman correctly replied:
(8:32) RP: "Nobody has died from this. Nobody died from Daniel Ellsberg's release of the Pentagon papers. More people die from the lies government tells. They told lies in the sixties- and I served in the military in the sixties for five years. How many people died because they lied us into war? How many people have died because of the lies that were told to get us into Iraq, and now Afghanistan!"
When Malveaux stated that the feds have not accepted responsibility for shutting down Wiki-Leaks, Dr. Paul had to give her an education:
(9:20) RP: "Our government doesn't always tell us the truth! That's how we go to war!...They build up the fear, just like after the crisis (the financial crisis): 'The whole world would end unless we bail out all the rich people, and bailout Wall Street, and bailout all the bankers! But people now, in a very healthy way, are very skeptical of what the official pronouncements are from the government. And I consider that very good."
Listen for the various chuckles under the host's breath during Dr. Paul's arguments, and after he is thanked for his time (10:43). B!tch!

The two also talked about the ongoing wars; and Dr. Paul spoke about why he thought fellow fiscal conservatives don't argue for ending the empire and bringing the troops home:
RP: "They're scared to death that if they say we ought to just leave, that they're not tough...Sometimes people like to prove how tough they are with other people's lives. And I think sometimes being tough is standing up for what is right!"

December 14th, 2010
RTAmerica, Russia Today's US branch, has proven itself an excellent ally of Dr. Paul and the larger rEVOLution. Texas Straight Talk: Audit the Fed (11/13/2010)
December 12th, 2010
In this week's TST update, Chairman Paul reaffirms his desire for a full and complete audit of the Federal Reserve. His chairmanship will not by itself force the necessary reforms to the country's secretive and authoritarian monetary policy. Dr. Paul will do his best to inform the public from a position of greater influence, and to shed light onto the Fed's shadowy agreements and payoffs to cronies. It is our duty to keep the pressure on the institution- and on our Representatives- to demand transparency (and force accountability) of the private Fed!

Chairman Paul with Bloomberg’s Kathleen Hays (12/10/2010)
December 12th, 2010
Representative Ron Paul talks with Bloomberg's Kathleen Hays about re-establishing the U.S. estate tax, his plans as the new Chairman of the Subcommittee on Domestic Monetary Policy, and the compromise on extending the Bush era tax cuts. The interview is part of Bloomberg's Hays Advantage podcast. While some Republicans feign outrage at Dr. Paul's support for the White House's tax cut proposal, it is another example of the Congressman's pragmatic populist streak: he is unwilling to risk the impending tax hikes for everyone, just to ensure the tax cuts for the richest Americans (who have done incredibly well over the last decade, by any economic measure). Moreover, he would never admit it, but perhaps he feels compassion for the millions of unemployed who have lost their jobs at the hands of the Fed's boom and bust cycle. In an era where the banks and corporations have been bailed out for their reckless speculation, should the Republican congress make their fiscal stand against the unemployed? How about cutting the funding for the wars, the embassies, the bureaucracy, or the body scanners?
